Nestled in their peaks and caves since the 11th century, are the monasteries of Meteora. The Orthodox monasteries of Meteora, based on high steep cliffs, majestically looking into the sky, evoke an indescribable feeling that combines fear and admiration at the same time. "The eighth wonder of the world" - that's what they call this place. And this is just a pale attempt to convey in words the greatness of Meteora with their amazing combination of natural beauty and the strength of the human spirit. With ropes, with nets or with their bare hands, the monks built these gorgeous pieces of architectural art. UNESCO added Meteora to the World Heritage List in 1988.
